Daniel Day-Lewis Hesitant To Play Abraham Lincoln

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis was reticent playing U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in the now much anticipated film that opens this weekend beginning in limited release and heads out wide the following week. But after a long build-up before actually taking on the 16th U.S. leader, he reflected that he now feels "nourished" by the role and hopes Lincoln will "stay with him forever."

Both Day-Lewis and director Steven Spielberg made their only joint television appearance on ABC, which airs Friday evening on World News with Diane Sawyer and Nightline.

"This seemed like such an important thing," said U.K.-born Day-Lewis. "The last thing I wanted to do was to desiccate the memory of the most dearly loved president of this country."

Day-Lewis said that he became familiar with Lincoln while studying up on the Civil War and Spielberg recalled going to Washington, D.C. as a youth.

"I think it might have been from the cards that you got with bubble gum," Day-Lewis said. "That was a huge currency at the school where I was and there was a big series on the Civil War. ... We were constantly swapping cards back and forth to try to get the completed set."

Added Spielberg: "All I saw was a giant. I never forgot that experience. ... I felt he was looking directly at me."

Spielberg added that the found the idea of making Lincoln daunting, but said that Doris Kerns-Goodwin's Team of Rivals shed light on a part of the President he had hoped to discover.

"He was awkward to look at. His voice didn't fit his stature, and he would just disarm a room with just a crazy story that had no relevance to the issue of why they were in the room to begin with," he said. "There were so many odd, strange things about Abraham Lincoln that I think nobody knew how to pigeonhole him."

Spielberg said he had considered fully chronicling Lincoln's life, but decided to narrow this portrait of him to the period when he struggled to pass the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which formally abolished slavery.

"We didn't have the real estate to really give an accurate Lincoln portrait," he told ABC News. "It would have been like a greatest-hits album. You know, all those moments you read about in class -- two minutes for that, five minutes for the Gettysburg Address, let's do a little montage of the debates. I realized we had to take a position, our position, and get on with it. ... I will certainly carry this with me."

Spike Lee’s Michael Jackson Doc Bad 25 Heads For Thanksgiving Broadcast

Bad 25 is having its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, which opened Wednesday, but the Spike Lee-directed documentary, which recalls the late pop-star's creative process leading up to his follow-up album from his seminal Thriller release. This year marks the 25th anniversary of MJ's 1987 mega-seller Bad. ABC will broadcast the feature on Thanksgiving in the U.S. after picking up television rights.

"This will be a very special Thanksgiving for all families to enjoy the genius of Michael Jackson," Lee said in a statement as reported by the Los Angeles Times. "Big thanks to ABC for allowing people to witness the making of Michael Jackson’s Bad album."
The film reveals never-seen images of Jackson and more, including footage shot by the King of Pop himself. Spike Lee also interviews choreographers, musicians and collaborators including Martin Scorsese, Mariah Carey, Sheryl Crow, L.A. Reid and Kanye West.
Bad, which was the final collaboration between Jackson and Quincy Jones, contains five number-one hit singles.

After debuting in Venice, Bad 25 will have its North American premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival which opens a week from today.

First Photo of Shooting Suspect James Holmes; Police Investigating ‘Booby-Trapped’ Apartment

ABC's Denver affiliate has acquired and released the first image of James Holmes, the 24-year-old suspect in the shooting attack that left 12 dead and 50 injured this morning at an Aurora, Colorado, multiplex. Local police, meanwhile, have encountered a series of booby traps complicating their investigation of Holmes's apartment.

As a result, authorities are taking significant precautions as they proceed:

Police say the apartment of the suspect in a mass shooting at a Denver area movie theater is booby trapped, so they've evacuated five surrounding buildings.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates says bomb technicians are determining how to disarm flammable or explosive material in the third-floor apartment. "We could be here for hours or we could be here for days," said Oates.

Oates says pictures from inside the apartment are fairly disturbing and the devices look to be sophisticated.

Developing... Oh, and for the record: James Holmes is not "Jim Holmes" from the Colorado Tea Party. Nice one, GMA.

The Shade Of It All

For weeks CBS tried to stop ABC's Big Brother knock-off The Glass House from seeing the light of your TV screen. CBS felt like ABC pulled some copyright infringement shit by basically copying everything about Big Brother and hiring former BB producers. Those bitches at CBS tried everything. They went to a judge, tried to get a restraining order against ABC and even left a severed Mickey Mouse costume head in the beds of every ABC executive. It didn't work. The Glass House aired on Monday, I watched it, I felt ashamed, I voted, I felt even more ashamed for voting and CBS is madder than ever. There's not much CBS can do at this point except spill the tea. AND HOW! The C in CBS must stand for cunts, because they went all out in a fake press release where they announced their two new shows Dancing ON the Stars and Postermodern Family. This has to be the funniest thing CBS has ever produced. via Deadline:

“This very creative enterprise will bring a new sense of energy and fun that’s totally unlike anything anywhere else, honest,” said a CBS spokesperson, who also revealed that the Company has been working with a secret team for several months on the creation of the series, which was completely developed by the people at CBS independent of any other programming on the air. “Given the current creative and legal environment in the reality programming business, we’re sure nobody will have any problem with this title or our upcoming half-hour comedy for primetime, POSTMODERN FAMILY.”

“After all,” the spokesperson added, “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

There's already a Dancing On the Stars. It's called Lindsay Lohan forever tap dancing on Marilyn Monroe's grave.

Okay, I love that CBS is putting the pain they feel in their chapped asses into words and I love the bitter bitchiness they're throwing at ABC, but do they realize that they're fighting over The Glass House. I've seen The Glass House. That piece of shit show isn't worth fighting for. That's like two day-shift hookers fighting over the worst corner on the ho stroll or two sluts fighting over a dude with erectile dysfunction. Besides, every show copies every show. Glee copied Kids Inc., Finding Bigfoot copied Khloe & Lamar, etc, etc...

That said, I'd totally watch both of CBS' fake shows.

Report: Lindsay Lohan Found Unconscious, Taken to Hospital (UPDATED)

Just a week after crashing her car into a truck between filming on her would-be comeback flick Liz & Dick, Lindsay Lohan has reportedly been hospitalized after being found unconscious in her hotel, though her condition is unknown. "ABC7 has learned Lindsay Lohan was taken to hospital after being found unconscious at Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey," ABC7 reported via Twitter. A follow-up Tweet from the outlet added: "Attorney tells ABC7 that 'She's fine.'" Developing...

UPDATE: The New York Post has more: "Lohan not hospitalized but paramedics called after entourage couldn't rouse her from sleep," the paper Tweeted.

And yet more from E! Online, who cites sources who say exhaustion and dehydration were to blame for the incident this morning:

"Lindsay has been working a grueling schedule for the last couple of days," Lindsay's rep Steve Honig told E! News. "Last night she worked from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. She was exhausted and went back to her room to sleep. Producers were apparently concerned and called the fire department and paramedics found her sleeping but determined that she was fine, just extremely exhausted and slightly dehydrated.

"She is on her way home now to rest and will be back on set later today."

He added that no drugs or alcohol were involved in the incident.

And TMZ, chiming in with the details:

We're told Lindsay wasn't feeling well after complaining of exhaustion, she called someone from the Liz and Dick production team early this morning, and the team sent a private doctor to check on her. Before arriving, the doctor called the hotel and asked someone to check on Lindsay. Someone from the hotel went to her door, "checked on her" and determined she was "unresponsive." The hotel then called 911.

Lindsay's rep says it was someone from the production team who called 911.

Paramedics responded, and determined nothing was wrong with Lindsay. They left without transporting her to the hospital.

Well, good. Sounds like a case of overblown media reportage, but the lesson here is this: If people around Lohan are so concerned that heavy sleep might be construed as unresponsiveness — and if Lohan's working herself to the point of exhaustion, given her history — maybe the false alarm fuss should be taken as a warning, to Lohan, her team, and to those watching along at home. Nobody wants to see Lohan go out like Marilyn.

R.I.P. GCB, Ringer, Missing, CSI: Miami, Etc.....

Starting last night, every network slungshot themselves from California to NYC to officially present all of next season's shiny new shows. And to make way for their new hos, they had to strangle the life out of some of their old shows and some shows that lasted about as long as it takes for John Travolta's hungry Scientolohole to start begging for a finger bang after a massage starts. Some cancellations aren't going to bring on a chorus of pearl clutching (I'm looking at you, Ringer), but some are kind of surprising. I mean, how could they do that to Missing? Is Ashley Judd ever going to find her son or is she going to run around Europe while screaming "I AM A MOM, LOOKING FOR HER SON!" for the rest of damn eternity.

Anyway, put on your mourning veil and pour out some of your morning 40 oz. for all the shows that are now lying in the morgue.

In almost every episode of GCB, at least one dude character went topless and showed me the face of Jesus in his nipple holes. ABC can suck on a cold dick for that one and they can suck on another cold dick ("Who do I see about changing my name to ABC?" - John Travolta) for not picking up that Devious Maids mess with Susan Lucci in it. So no only is ABC keeping us away from man nipples, but they're also keeping us away from Susan Lucci's glamorously wooden acting. That is some dark-sided sinful shit.

ABC released a cutesy trailer for the 2012 Academy Awards telecast that speaks loads to the youthful new direction the show's makers were going in when they brought Brett Ratner aboard, before his untimely exit; in a slick parody of globe-trotting Hollywood fare, two heroes are tasked with tracking down wizened Billy Crystal for hosting duties on the Big Night. Those heroes? None other than Transformers castmates Josh Duhamel and Megan Fox, because of course. Nothing says current like the girl who was the hottest thing on earth three years ago! Watch the trailer and see if it entices you with its "Hey kids, check us out!" hip comedy stylings.

The trailer even comes courtesy of Funny Or Die, it's so plugged in! And hey, isn't that Vinnie Jones as a mysterious bartender with inside intel? And Bill Fichtner as Oscarcast producer Brian Grazer? (At least that much makes sense.) And, well, Robin Williams as a Himalayan ferryman? (That cameo actually just makes me sad that he's not hosting or co-hosting with Crystal.) See, the Oscars are for everybody! This milquetoast-but-four-quadrant trailer proves it!

Verdict: The 84th Academy Awards will be televised live on Feb. 26 at 4p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET, and from the looks of it we'll be in for a loooong night.
