If you’ve ever fantasized that Kristen Stewart invited you to bed by saying, “Hop in, water’s fine,” well, this is a trailer for your permanent collection. The actress and her Bohemian behavior in On The Road get prime placement — there’s even a quick glimpse of her talked-about double hand-job scene — along with co-stars Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley, in this just-released trailer for Walter Salles adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel.
Although the trio appears to get the most screen time, the fast-paced clip does a good job of introducing most of the name cast members, including Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Amy Adams, Elisabeth Moss and Alice Braga. The film gets a limited released on Dec. 21 if the world doesn’t end along with the Mayan calendar. You can also head over to iTunes to download the trailer — for your permanent collection.

The first image of the mysterious Elysium has made its way onto the Internet and a smooth skulled Matt Damon sporting a severe weapon and futuristic bric-a-brac are revealed. Director Neill Blomkamp received an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay for District 9 in 2010, which made over $115 million in the U.S. alone. Not bad for a feature directorial debut and no doubt a pass to move onto bigger and brighter things.
The image, which came via The Playlist is reminiscent of District 9 weaponry. Sony said the sci-fi pic will be part of their presentation at Comic-Con. But, is it just me or does this image of Matt Damon make him look eerily similar to a notorious Dutch man currently sitting in a Peruvian prison? Joran van der Sloot looks like he could be a double for Damon in this pic if one just gave him some weapons (or maybe not a good idea), a tan shirt and some robotic attachments…

Pardon the digress. Elysium also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner, Alice Braga, Diego Luna and Wagner Moura and is slated to open next March. Set in 2159, a wealthy elite live on a man-made space station, while everyone else lives on a ruined Earth. It is one man’s mission (Damon) to bring back equality to the divergent worlds.

Also in this Tuesday edition of The Broadsheet: Tim Burton has an update on Dark Shadows… Alice Braga headed to Elysium… Kung Fu Panda 2 breaks one box office record… and more ahead.
· Because you can never have enough villains fighting Batman, rumor has it that recently cast Matthew Modine may play a heavy in The Dark Knight Rises alongside Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (assuming those latter two are playing baddies). Late last week, gossiper Roger Friedman reported that Modine is set to star as Nixon, “a politician and a key villain.” Little else is known about the character, but add your speculative thoughts about what this means for Bruce Wayne in the comments below. [Showbiz411 via /Film]
· Good news, 3D haters: Tim Burton isn’t planning on giving Dark Shadows an extra dimension. “There’s people like, ‘Everything’s gonna be in 3D,’ or ‘I hate 3D!’” Burton told TheWrap. “I think people should have a choice. I don’t think it should be forced on anybody. At the same time, it’s great, some of it. It’s like ‘Yes or no!? 3D! Yes or no?!’ It’s like, well, you know, come on, whatever, some yes, some no.” The Johnny Depp-led film arrives in theaters next May. [Wrap]
· Alice Braga (Predators, I Am Legend) has joined the cast of Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 follow-up, Elysium. Matt Damon and Jodie Foster co-star; the film is set for release on March 1, 2013. [Deadline]
· Kung Fu Panda 2 may have slightly disappointed at the box office over Memorial Day weekend,…

Welcome back to Movieline Attractions, your one-stop guide to everything new, noteworthy and/or nostalgia inducing at the movies. This week brings what appears to be one of the most consistent, dependably watchable — and even good! — batch of releases to theaters, including what I imagine might turn out to be this year’s Hurt Locker. Not that you’d know it by looking at it. Read on and allow me to explain.
WHAT’S NEW: People finally seem to be clued in to Despicable Me and… they like it! Stephanie Zacharek’s own rave is forthcoming this morning, but a strong majority of American critics are also behind this animated tale of a moon-stealing super-villain who meets his match in fatherhood. (I think? I’m still kind of relying on the kindness of others here.) How will that translate to box office, though? Well, look at it this way: The title and general ambiguity is still a bit of an albatross, and the big 3D boost that Universal sought should be mitigated a bit by holdovers The Last Airbender and Toy Story 3. But! Good word-of-mouth can earn back a little of that, probably pushing Despicable into the neighborhood of $36 million. Which, believe it or not, might very well be flirting with sequel-ready grosses; Despicable Me reportedly cost half of the $150 million Pixar drops on an average effort.
I’m more interested in Predators, which was not exactly given what you’d call an inspired marketing push by Fox in recent weeks. But what it did receive — particularly online — seems to signify something… good? The reboot/remake/revision of the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger hit pits a band of humans against a population of

Not a sequel and not quite a reboot, Predators sits in that no-man’s land of derivation, where a franchise is plundered mainly for its conceptual cachet, and continuity and reinvention are cast aside as hopelessly old-fashioned. Conceiving of their audience as a chronic video-game player, the filmmakers seem to have figured that fans want only minor variations on the same experience, over and over again. Not that such a calculation is below a franchise born as a goof (the original screenwriters were inspired by a joke that followed the release of Rocky IV: If that franchise were to continue, he’d have to fight an alien) and forced into the indignity of the Predator vs. Alien films. Fans of the original, which had Arnold Schwarzenegger wasting a killer extraterrestrial in Guatemala, have likely grown resigned to disappointment with its descendents; Predators will not change that entirely, but it may summon enough fond memories to sneak by.
Produced by Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimród Antal, the film opens with a long and involving sequence in which a sort of United Forces of Benetton assembles in the heart of an unidentified jungle. Royce (Adrien Brody, fancy meeting you here) is an ex-military mercenary shown waking up in mid-free fall and barely opening his parachute in time. The rest of the group — which comprises Danny Trejo as a Mexican cartel heavy, Alice Braga as an Israeli Defense Force soldier, Walton Goggins as a murderer on death row, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali as a Sierra Leone soldier, Louis Ozawa Changchien as some sort of Asian mafia assassin, Oleg Taktarov as a Chechen rebel, and Topher Grace as a doctor — all report having been kidnapped from their respective locales and waking up in mid-air. Extremely wary and completely wigged out, they
