It had its big debut in Cannes in May and its U.S. release at the end of August. Now John Hillcoat’s Lawless is headed to Blu-ray and DVD. Based on Matt Bondurant’s novel The Wettest County in the World, the film stars Shia LaBeouf (Disturbia), Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises), Academy Award-nominee Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Academy Award-nominee Jessica Chastain (The Help) and Emmy winner Guy Pearce (The King’s Speech). The Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD will include special features.
Hitting retail on November 27th, special features include an audio commentary from director John Hillcoat and author Matt Dondurant. It will also have two featurettes: The True Story of the Wettest County in the World and Franklin County, VA: Then and Now. Willie Nelson’s Midnight Run music video is also a part of the nifty additions.
Commenting on the film in Cannes last May, John Hillcoat noted: “There are a lot of parallels to today with the economic crisis, today’s Mexican cartels, heroin in New York, crack and cocaine in the ’80s and the war on drugs. All this feeds back to Prohibition in the ’30s.”
Lawless opened with just over $10 million in its opening weekend theatrical release in late August, and has taken in over $36.27 million through last weekend.

It is Christmas in August when Summit Entertainment releases more photos from the final installment of the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn – Part 2. And it just so happens that one of the photos depicts Bella (Kristen Stewart), Jacob (Taylor Lautner) and Renesmee, the half-vampire progeny of Bella and Edward rocking around the Christmas tree with some, um, traditionally human appetizers. Apparently, the half human side of Suri, I mean, Renesmee still digs Ritz crackers and Hershey Christmas Kisses. I’m guessing the summer sausage is for Jacob. Okay, so enough about the holidays. Let’s just get to the pictures, which you can find after the jump. Breaking Dawn Part 2, which reportedly will have at least one big plot surprise that does not follow the book from which its adapted, opens on Nov. 16.

Film Independent Spirit Awards Looking for Good Movies
The 28th Film Independent Spirit Awards are set for Saturday February 23rd with location (it’s usually on the beach in Santa Monica) still officially TBD. The organization is accepting submissions in its various categories beginning today, Tuesday August 14th. It’s regular deadline for consideration is Tuesday, September 18th and the final deadline is Tuesday October 16th. The nominations for the Spirits will take place Tuesday, November 27th at 10am. Academy Teams with Mary Pickford Foundation to Spotlight Silent Era
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Mary Pickford Foundation have partnered on a multi-year initiative to promote the legacy of Mary Pickford and the silent film era, Academy CEO Dawn Hudson announced. The partnership includes an annual silent film screening, silent film preservation initiatives and the digitization of components of the Academy’s Mary Pickford Collection. To kick off this partnership, and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Academy’s Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study, the Academy and the Foundation will host “Inside the Vaults” event on Tuesday, September 11, at the Pickford Center in Hollywood.
