Here’s a novel way to keep from getting worked up about your main Oscar rival: forget his name entirely. For Time magazine’s Great Performances video feature on this year’s Oscar nominees, Les Miserables co-stars and Oscar nominees Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman spend some time lauding their competition. Hathaway even praises the computer-generated tiger in Life of Pi. But watch what happens around the 2:09 when Jackman slyly raises the topic of Lincoln.
If you need any further proof that Wolverine a) can act and b) possesses a wit that’s as well-developed as his pecs, keep a close eye on his poker face as he claims not to remember the name of Daniel Day-Lewis, who, according to conventional wisdom, will emerge the victor when the Best Actor Oscar is handed out on Feb. 24.
“Lincoln is the movie, but the lead guy who I always forget…,” Jackman says to Hathaway without any hint that he’s having a bit of fun. In fact, it’s Hathaway who can’t keep a straight face as she jogs Jackman’s memory and he refers to Day-Lewis as simply “Lewis” — in case, I guess, any Academy voters will be deciding how to cast their Best Actor vote after watching this video. Jackman does admit that the actor whose name he can’t seem to remember is “awesome” in Lincoln though, and he also waxes enthusiastic about Joaquin Phoenix’s performance in The Master.
You can also access video interviews with Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Sally Field, John Goodman, John Hawkes, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Quvenzhané Wallis, Christoph Waltz and Naomi Watts at the Great Performances link above. In the meantime, here’s a compilation clip. Oh…

Hugh Jackman is way more emo than I thought.
But I’ll get to that in a moment. Among the filmmakers who turned up to praise the Les Misérables star at the Museum of the Moving Image’s salute to Jackman in lower Manhattan on Tuesday night was The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher Nolan who grew an enormous Cheshire-Cat grin when I asked him if the Superman reboot he is producing, Man of Steel, would see a cameo by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, or any actor, as Batman, and if he had any objections to a cameo as a continuity move to tie the Supes movie to the 2015 Justice League movie.
“I can’t talk about that. You know that,” Nolan said cheerily. I didn’t know that, actually, but now that I do, I feel compelled to point out that, despite the frustratingly inconclusive nature of his answer, it’s not a ‘No.’ Yes, JG-L’s camp shot down the speculation as “entirely false” back in November, but if the idea had been ruled out, wouldn’t Nolan be saying something along those lines, too, so that the fan boys could move on? You know how angry they can get when their casting hopes and dreams are suddenly deflated after being allowed to build for months.
The impish smile on Nolan’s face as he issued that no comment also heightened my optimism, especially in the wake of the powerful Man of Steel trailer that’s now burning up the Internet. Zack Snyder’s take on Superman clearly aspires to have the kind of psychological heft and dark undertones that made The Dark Knight trilogy so satisfying. If the movie attains or even approaches those standards, a JG-L…

U.K. born actor Bob Hoskins said Wednesday he is retiring following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease. A representative announced the actor’s retirement. His career spanned four decades, most recently appearing in Snow White and the Huntsman.
“Bob Hoskins wishes to announce that he will be retiring from acting, following his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease last autumn,” his representative said in a statement. “He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career. Bob is now looking forward to his retirement with his family, and would greatly appreciate that his privacy be respected at this time.”
Hoskins received a Best Actor Oscar-nomination in 1987 for his starring role in Neil Jordan’s crime-drama Mona Lisa. He won the BAFTA and a Golden Globe nomination for that role in addition to wins ranging from Cannes to the Boston Society of Film Critics and the European Film Awards. He also received nods the following year for his role in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and later for parts in Made in Dagenham (2010), Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005), Twenty Four Seven (1997) and The Street (2006).
He also appeared in Hook (1991), Brazil (1985) and Enemy at the Gates (2001).

MONEYBONG: Watch Brad Pitt Get Stuck In A Stoner Laugh Hole
Grab yourself a big bowl of Funyuns nachos made with melted Cheetos and Hamburger Helper, because this blooper from the Moneyball DVD of Brad Pitt laughing until tears come out of his ducts will probably get you contact high. Brad is laughing like he just got his virgin weed cherry popped by taking a looong hit. LIGHTWEIGHT! Bitch is laugh crying like me when I read that he’s the frontrunner for the Best Actor Oscar. I bet bitch’s doctor laughed like that the first time he went to do a testicular test and found nothing but a tattoo that read “Angelina Was Here.”
As for why Brad’s was caught in a HAHrricane, I’m sure the answer lies in the faces of the annoyed crew members who all made a mental note to never EVER let his weak ass take a hit from their blunt before a take. Amateur.
And here’s the other half of Brangie making her Vein of Life be known while posing with Pedro Almodovar at a Golden Globes luncheon for the Best Foreign Film nominees.

For the past few weeks, Movieline’s own S.T. VanAirsdale has been listing Michael Fassbender as one of the top five front runners for next year’s Best Actor Oscar for his work in Steve McQueen’s* upcoming erotic drama Shame. Finally, a trailer for the acclaimed film has surfaced, giving evidence again for why Fassbender — who played X-Men: First Class’s Magneto — is so worthy of your crushes, why he ran away with the Best Actor Award at this year’s Venice Film Festival and why all of those early rave reviews for Shame were warranted.
*Not the Steve McQueen you’re thinking of. This Steve McQueen is a British filmmaker responsible for the 2008 film Hunger.
Stephanie Zacharek, who saw the film in Venice this September, set up Shame’s premise elegantly for Movieline:
Fassbender plays Brandon, a successful New York professional who suffers from sexual compulsive behavior. You might call him a sex addict if that term didn’t conjure visions of David Duchovny and Charlie Sheen acting out like spoiled schoolyard kids, and what Brandon suffers is more peculiar and more painful. He has assignations with hookers; he initiates potential encounters with luscious strangers he sees on the subway; at work, he leaves his desk for the men’s room, where he relieves his urges with joyless efficiency. His boss, David (James Badge Dale), is also something of a buddy — the two troll city bars together, looking to pick up women, though the prattling David strikes out more often than he scores, while

The memory of Roberto Benigni’s 1999 Best Actor Oscar win for Life is Beautiful is still a pleasurable, if slightly unsettling jolt to my synapses. Chair jumping! Hollering! Grand gesturing! That unmistakable air of horniness! More than ten years later, Benigni is exhuming that fervor on the set of Woody Allen’s Bop Decameron, where he costars alongside Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Alec Baldwin, and Greta Gerwig. Here are his best five moments of paparazzi-captured craycray.
1. Maniacal recognition
2. Maniacal camaraderie

3. Maniacal respect
4. Maniacal glee
5. Mania

Jackie Cooper, who played Daily Planet editor Perry White in Christopher Reeve’s Superman movies, died Tuesday at a Beverly Hills hospital of a sudden illness. He was 88.
The onetime kid actor remains the youngest person ever to be nominated for the Best Actor Oscar, thanks to his role in 1931’s Skippy. Cooper also garnered Emmys for directing episodes of M*A*S*H* and The White Shadow. [TMZ]
