This week the Miami-based rapper/Men In Black 3 ditty composer known as Pitbull makes his acting debut in the martial arts/action film Blood Money playing himself, naturally — a rapper who just happens to drop club bangers before giving sage drug game advice like “Go hard or go home!” to stone-faced visitors after the show. WHY THE HELL NOT. And yes, Blood Money is actually about a Shaolin priest who becomes a hitman after his family is killed, and it stars Zheng Liu, billed as “the next Bruce Lee,” not to mention Hong Kong legend Gordon Freaking Liu (The 36th Chamber of Shaolin, 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, Kill Bill). My takeaway from that is: At long last, bald twins Pitbull and Gordon Liu are in the same movie!
Without further ado, watch Pitbull singing his own “Miami Boyz” and advising a wannabe Scarface in Movieline’s exclusive clip.

I’d love to have seen Pitbull rap with dancing ladies, dispense advice to criminals, and then also do somersaults over speeding motorcycles and throw knives and roundhouse kick baddies like Zheng Liu does in the rest of this movie. Alas, the Pitbull of Blood Money is all about the music. Perhaps in his next movie he’ll join the ranks of MCs-turned-action stars and defeat an army of cartel thugs with his sick party beats or something.
Meanwhile, Blood Money’s “next Bruce Lee” should make this an intriguing view for action fans; with the exception of those clearly CG throwing blades that Liu keeps hurling into his enemies, the action relies on practical stunts rather than digital ones. I’m told Liu actually broke a steel bar on his head and the sound you hear was actually captured on location and not foleyed in afterwards.
The elder…

In the latest installment of One-Sheet Wonder, a column going deep on the best, worst, weirdest and other milestones of contemporary movie-poster art, Movieline takes a look at the new poster for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master. — Ed.
The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson’s enigmatic follow-up to There Will Be Blood, has been trailed by speculation and assumption for months — Is it about Scientology? Is Philip Seymour Hoffman portraying L. Ron Hubbard in a biopic capacity? — and every question has been met with denials and mystery. But each new marketing piece sheds more light on what we’ll get. After two beautiful, beguiling teaser trailers, a beautiful, beguiling one-sheet for Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master debuted today over at Ain’t It Cool News. But like the clips before it, the poster tells us almost nothing about the movie. (Or do they?)

The first trailer was peppered with Scientology-ish personality questions, and this poster seems based on an abstraction of an e-meter, the device used in Scientology auditing.
The close-up of a barreled piece of silver metal seems like an unfinished soda can. But take a look at the tubes in this photo (pictured right) and it’s not a far leap to see the poster as a macro view of one of those e-meter tubes. But then what’s that dirty, flat-champagne-like liquid draining out of the poster (notice the drops at the top)?
It could reference Hubbard’s Naval background and his life on a yacht, and there’s a vague nautical element to the fonts. Or it could refer to the flushing of alcohol that comes with the Scientology auditing process. Whatever the…

Yep, it’s happening. A week and change after finding their Dick Burton among True Blood’s werewolf population, Lindsay Lohan and the makers of Lifetime’s Liz & Dick have released the first production image from the romance-biopic. And, well… it’s kind of shockingly classy. If you squint, LiLo and Grant Bowler actually kinda sorta look like the iconic couple. Anyone else pleasantly surprised?

According to E!, who’s documenting La Lohan’s would-be comeback with the same aplomb as it did her shaky past few years, the still was shot last week while filming officially began today. Over to producer Larry Thompson for the oversharing update:
Thompson tells E! News that the first scenes were shot this morning starting around 9:30 AM and they were of Liz and Dick on a yacht (docked at Marina del Rey). He also reveals that the cast was in good spirits:
“A little first-day jitters for everyone, but it went well,” he revealed, while adding that Lindsay was in a good mood as well.
I’m still getting over how much Lohan resembles Taylor, even at an angle and in profile and doused in heavy eye make-up. Then again, this is the very first day of filming, people. A little early to call this one — the biopic is set to air on November 3 — but ever so promising…

Of course, everyone remembers the 2009 blockbuster Terror at Blood Fart Lake, which cost roughly $20 to make and drew such accolades as “You can watch the ‘trailer’ [...] but I sincerely recommend that you don’t” and “It looks like a few goth boys and girls made it while they were drunk and high.” Pretty spellbinding, to be sure — thus the sequel Return to Blood Fart Lake, new today on DVD. Who’s pumped?
I said, WHO’S… enh, never mind. I’m just throwing it out there as a counterpoint to this week’s encroaching Oscar saturation. After all, why succumb to Hollywood’s self-congratulatory pap when you can luxuriate in the no-budget pleasures of… this:
The “Scarecrow Killer” Jimmy Van Brunt is back and out for revenge in Return to Blood Fart Lake, the high octane, action packed, blood & corn filled sequel to the smash hit Terror at Blood Fart Lake! Many years have passed since the tragic events at Blood Fart Lake, where Jimmy dispatched a bunch of party going, cabin dwelling kids before he could be stopped by Ben Scrivens & his red neck pal, Leo Dechamp. Now Jimmy has returned, this time preying on a group of “Spirit Hunters” searching for the truth to his killings, & Ben must track down Leo before they’re added to his list of victims!
Right? Anyway, it’s bound to be better than The Daldry. I’ll even get you started: Here’s Terror at Blood Fart Lake in its entirety. Happy Tuesday!
And wait, what? It can’t be: Return to Blood Fart Lake is on YouTube as well? But how will I get any work done today?

In the Land of Blood and Honey isn’t actually Angelina Jolie’s first film as a director — that distinction goes to A Place in Time, a little-seen 2007 documentary showcasing life in different locations around the globe at the same moment, shot with the help of some of her famous friends, including Djimon Hounsou and Anne Hathaway. But like that film, Jolie’s narrative debut arrives surrounded by a halo of good intentions and the sense that celebrity is being used as the spoonful of sugar to make the didacticism go down.
Per the activist and star’s own statement in the press notes, with this new feature she “wanted to make a film that would express, in an artistic way, [her] frustrations with the international community’s failure to intervene in conflicts in a timely and effective manner.” The conflict on-screen is the Bosnian War of the ’90s, which puts new lovers Ajla (Zana MarjanoviÄ

Per the activist and star’s own statement in the press notes, with this new feature she “wanted to make a film that would express, in an artistic way, [her] frustrations with the international community’s failure to intervene in conflicts in a timely and effective manner.” The conflict on-screen is the Bosnian War of the ’90s, which puts new lovers Ajla (Zana Marjanović) and Danijel (Goran Kostić) on opposite sides of a clash that left 100,000 dead and led to accusations of genocide.
Despite those austere intentions, In the Land of Blood and Honey is gratifyingly short on lectures and, interestingly, on history lessons. The drama, which was also written by Jolie, is set very specifically during the Bosnian War without delving deeply into the complications of the reasons for the bloodshed. Ajla is a Bosnian Muslim, an aspiring painter who lives with her sister; Danijel is a Bosnian Serb, a policeman whose family has a…

A Croatian author has filed a lawsuit suit accusing Angelina Jolie of lifting parts of his 2007 novel for her writing-directing effort In the Land of Blood and Honey, basically arguing that the female protagonist in both works is subject to “being raped continuously by soldiers and officers” before becoming “a servant at the camp headquarters, a duty assumed by very few of the captives.” Having seen Blood and Honey, I can tell you this isn’t even an especially accurate description of the film or the context of the woman’s servitude, but hey. No such thing as bad publicity, etc. etc. [Radar]
