Spike Lee’s Oldboy is getting some bad ass company in the Park Chan-Wook remake business, as the Korean director’s ultraviolent femme-fronted Sympathy For Lady Vengeance, the third pic in Park’s Vengeance trilogy, will be remade into a Charlize Theron-fronted Americanized adaptation by Departed writer William Monahan.
Theron (who will star and produce under her Denver & Delilah Films banner) joins forces with Oscar-winning screenwriter Monahan and superproducer Megan Ellison, arguably the ballsiest financier around; the actress has been trying to make Lady Vengeance for a few years now, but this update indicates it’s finally coming together.
“This will be very American — and very unexpected,” Monahan said as the project was announced. “Park is a genius; it’s the Everest of adaptations and I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it.”
I’ve got blood in my teeth to do it, Monahan says. IN A PRESS RELEASE. I’m usually skeptical when it comes to remakes — especially remakes of movies that are pretty awesome and bold in their original versions — but I can’t wait to see what he puts on the page.

Thoughts, Vengeance-lovers?
There’s nothing like a good bit of alternate “What if?” casting to make you appreciate a movie whose stars’ chemistry works, so picture what might have been if David O. Russell had made his Oscar contender Silver Linings Playbook a few years back… with Vince Vaughn and Zooey Deschanel.
“I wrote this five years ago and I rewrote it 20 times,” Russell told The Huffington Post. “And I thought I was going to make it with Vince Vaughn and Zooey Deschanel before The Fighter. And then it didn’t happen, for any number of reasons that were out of my hands.”

Meanwhile, as awards pundit Anne Thompson notes, Silver Linings is flagging in the crowded Oscar race after enjoying a burst of momentum in previous weeks. Maybe a celebrity endorsement from Oscar-winner Charlize Theron will help? Here’s Theron waxing enthusiastic over Lawrence in EW’s Entertainers of the Year cover story:
“How is it that she can just stand there, not saying a word, and make us feel so much? Her talent is undeniable, and she is a force to be reckoned with.”
Theron should know; she starred as the older version of a pre-fame, pre-Hunger Games Lawrence (or vice versa — Lawrence starred as the young Theron, opposite Revolution’s J.D. Pardo) in 2008’s The Burning Plain.

A few minutes ago, if you told me that you had a picture of Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender 69ing in W Magazine, I’d prepare for the fapocalypse by sending my dog to the boarders before ordering tubs of lube, replacing my bed sheets with plastic tarps and telling my neighbors that they should either somehow catch a cold that stuffs up their noses or they should go ahead and visit their parents upstate. Well, here’s the picture and…….huuuuuuuuuuuuh?!
Why are they fully dressed? Like they’re fully FULLY dressed. They’re even wearing shoes! Why does Charlize’s eyes look like they just made out with Taylor Momsen’s raccoon eyes? Why does it look like there’s a Kindle hanging from Charlize’s crotch and Michael Assbender is catching up on some reading? Why is Charlize pointing her open mouth away from Michael Assbender’s crotch? When your mouth is open and Michael Assbender’s peen is within beej distance, your natural instinct should be to introduce your tonsils to his peen head. That fake fire in the background must be letting out some toxic fumes that are making both of them hazy in the brains. That’s the only explanation.
But the rest of the pictures are much more faptastic (especially this one which I’m turning into ceiling paper) and have convinced me that Charlize and Assbender need to star in 50 Shades of Grey together and that the 50 Shades of Grey movie needs to take place in Freddy Krueger’s nightmare lair. That’s where they are, right?
You might guess most folks flocking to theaters this weekend for Snow White and the Huntsman are the legions of diehard fans of Twilight’s Kristen Stewart, who stars in the fantasy adventure as the sword-swinging Snow White. Maybe, even, they’ll come for co-star Chris Hemsworth — he of Thor and Avengers fame. But surprise, surprise — who’d have thought the big draw, at least for folks who hit opening day today, would be neither of SWATH’s up-and-coming talent?
PMC Studios’ Beyond the Trailer (owned by Movieline’s parent company PMC) caught up with some early Snow White adopters at the AMC E-Walk today, and they told Grace Randolph they were there to see the Evil Queen — Charlize Theron. What’s more: At least one woman says she actually saw the film despite K-Stew.
Also: Props to the older lady at 3:50 dropping truth bombs about dead ugly people, who wants to buy presents for Hemsworth’s children (even though they’d most certainly be impossibly beautiful Hems-spawn, but whatevs).

Of the stellar actors assembled for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, and Fassy alone are worth the price of admission. But the lesser known cast member that I’m most looking forward to watching navigate Prometheus’s space terrors is one Logan Marshall-Green, whom I previously declared the American Tom Hardy on account of his doppelganger status, and whom you may also recall from such prior milestones as being the hot (but totes bad news) Trey on The O.C.
Well, finally Marshall-Green (who also starred on TNT’s Dark Blue and popped up in Brooklyn’s Finest and Devil) gets his own close-up in the ongoing spoiler-tease that is the Prometheus PR campaign trail. He plays the plum role of Holloway, the scientist lover to Rapace’s Elizabeth. And, judging from this not terribly-spoilery behind the scenes video, he sees whatever it is the crew is doing out there as some form of extreme sports.
