Starring Chris Hemsworth, Isabel Lucas and Josh Hutcherson, the film revolves around a group of teenagers embarking to save their town from an invasion of North Korean soldiers. A Korean-invasion-themed party will follow the premiere screening to celebrate the closing night of the festival. Fantastic Fest will take place September 20 – 27 in Austin, Texas
Javier Bardem Humanitarian Doc Heads to Theaters
Sons of the Clouds: The Last Colony is produced by Academy Award-winning actor Javier Bardem, Alvaro Longoria and Lilly Hartley, the documentary, directed by Longoria of Morena Films and will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 13. The film features Javier Bardem and focuses on a forgotten, unresolved conflict in Northern Africa where the de-colonization of the Western Sahara has displaced nearly 200,000 Sahrawi people to refugee camps. If the world were ending imminently — say, in three weeks — would you throw off the shackles of social confines and indulge in every crazy impulse the moment inspired? Would you seek out your loved ones in order to spend your last days in their company? Would you just stay put and continue on as normal right up until the final moment? Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, the directorial debut of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist writer Lorene Scafaria, combines a deviously tragicomic take on the approaching annihilation of mankind with a irritatingly unconvincing and unnecessary love story.
Until romance reluctantly but unavoidably creaks into the story (seeking a friend, my ass), the film starts off so well, exploring the most prosaic of upcoming apocalypses as seen through the eyes of Dodge (Steve Carell), a man whose life has been largely unexceptional and is now about to come to an end, along with most everyone else’s. (One of the film’s nice touches is an overheard radio broadcast about how the planet’s best and brightest are being gathered into some kind of ark — a standard issue global cataclysm plot point never touched on again, because the characters in this film aren’t exceptional enough to be plucked up.) At the outset beginning, he and his wife listen to a news announcement about how a last effort to stop a giant asteroid headed toward us has failed, and that impact was in an estimated 21 days. She looks at him, and then runs for the hills, never to be seen again.
For a while, Dodge keeps going into work at his insurance company, where his boss notes that the few remaining employees are allowed to dress like it’s casual Friday every day, and wonders if anyone would like to…

SPOILER ALERT: Who's Coming Back For Season 2 Of American Horror Story
Sadly, the American Horror Story season one finale didn’t end with all of the Kardashians moving into the house and the camera panning to that anti-christ child throwing us a “Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it!” wink, but it did end with the entire Harmon family living happily ever as ghosts who can still cum. There was still a bunch of questions that went unanswered (examples: Who is Constance’s fourth kid? Why did Mena Suvari look like Michael Jackson? How come Beetlejuice didn’t make a cameo? etc…), but shit pretty much wrapped up.
Ryan Murphy said way in the beginning of AHS that his original vision was to do every season in a different city with a different house and that’s apparently what his ass is going to do. The Harmons are finished, that house is a thing of the past and spending your Wednesday nights humping your sofa pillow to a topless Dylan McDermott soaping up his nipples is behind you. During a conference call today, Ryan Murphy said this is what’s going to happen next season:
- The fuckery will go down in a different house or building and the entire second season will have a new “overriding theme.”
- Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will not be the leads of season two. Connie, Dylan and some actors

Peter Berg’s beloved TV series Friday Night Lights ends this week, capping its rollercoaster five-season run with an Emmy nomination and a fantastic oral history of the show by its creators and stars over at Grantland. But this might not be the end for FNL, if, as reports say, Berg and Co. are trying to get another Friday Night Lights movie off the ground, to pick up where the small-screen storyline left off.
The movie hubbub began when Grantland editor (and famed sports guy) Bill Simmons tweeted yesterday, “PS: We didn’t put it in the oral history, but Peter Berg told us he wants to do a FNL movie with Chandler/Britton off the final episode.”
TVline followed up with a rep from Universal, who said that no Friday Night Lights film is currently in the works. But Friday Night Lights is nothing if not a scrappy property; fan passion helped keep it on the air through network changes, after all, and series stars like Adrianne Palicki, Aimee Teegarden, and Taylor Kitsch have risen since being on the show.
Of course, there already is a Friday Night Lights movie, which Berg also directed — the original 2004 film starring Billy Bob Thornton — which was based on the nonfiction book Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team, and a Dream, about the 1988 Permian High School Panthers football team in Odessa, Texas.
But Berg’s Friday Night Lights 2.0 film (reboot? remake? spin-off?)…

No matter how much goodwill the Emmy Awards engendered by nominating Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton for Friday Night Lights, when Tony Shalhoub is still hearing his name called for Monk, you know there must have been some snubs. Here now are the Movieline-approved five most egregious. Set your outrage level to apoplectic and click ahead to witness the carnage.
· Community and Parks and Recreation are (mostly) shut out
As predicted here yesterday — amid some truly tone deaf calls, like no nominations for Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison; whoops! — Community and Parks and Recreation were pretty much ignored by Emmy voters. The critical favorites could only score two nominations — both by Parks and Recreation (Amy Poehler’s deserved Best Actress in a Comedy nomination and best theme song). For Community, that means a big goose egg. Though as snubbed-for-Shalhoub star Joel McHale said after delivering the nominations, “It’s OK. I phone it in.”
· Chandra Wilson fails to get a fifth straight Best Supporting Actress nomination
Mock Grey’s Anatomy if you will, but one thing has been consistently excellent on the fledgling series for the last five years: Chandra Wilson’s performance as Dr. Miranda Bailey. After four straight nominations and a season closing arc that played to the rafters, you would think a fifth nomination would have come easily for the Grey’s star. Nope! And while it’s hard to argue with the other selections in the category — Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks, Burn Notice’s Sharon Gless, Damages’ Rose Byrne and The Good Wife’s Archie Panjabi and Christine Baranski — shouldn’t someone have found room for Chandra?
