QOTD: Less Women Are Threatened By Goop Now That She's 40
While Apple and Moses Martin are eating the stuck cheese off of the McDonald’s wrappers they smuggled into their bedrooms because they are HONGRAY, Goopy Paltrow is downstairs sharing a crystal goblet full of calorie-free organic air with a bunch of women who were too threatened by her to be her friend 14 years ago. Goopy tells Self Magazine (more like Self-Involved Magazine if Fishsticks is on the cover) that after Harvey Weinstein pretty much bought her an Oscar for Shakespeare in Love, women were too jealous of her power to be her friend. But now that she’s more seasoned and has been through a lot (I’ll wait here as you go and pick up the eyeball that rolled out onto the floor), women like Beyonce and Cameron Diaz want to be her friend. The Anne Hathaway of her time shat out this dingle of ridiculousness.
“I feel a sisterhood emerging around me. I’m less threatening now that I’m 40 and not 26-with-an-Oscar. They know I’ve been through a lot of pain and suffering – some public, some private – and I keep going. Or maybe it’s just that I was the first one who could afford therapy!”
Goopy really has been through a lot of pain and suffering! One time at a restaurant, she ordered a caviar-encrusted

What a difference an Oscar-nominated picture can make. Last July, in the wake of the Aurora, Colorado movie-theater shootings, Harvey Weinstein generated headlines, and some snickering in the film industry, when, in an interview with the Huffington Post, he called for a filmmaker summit on movie violence. But now that he’s got Quentin Tarantino’s bloody, gunplay riddled Django Unchained movie vying for a Best Picture Oscar, his perspective has changed. In a recent interview with Deadline, Weinstein, who’s never been content to ride in the back seat, said he has to be “a follower, not a leader” on the issue.
Here’s an excerpt of Weinstein’s HuffPo interview, which posted just days after the Aurora shooting:
Weinstein, who is set co-host a fundraiser for Barack Obama in Greenwich, CT, on August 6, declined to criticize the president directly for shying away from a fight over gun control. “I don’t think he’s timid,” he said. “I think he’s got deep personal beliefs. I don’t have to agree with everything a candidate does to support him.” And, unlike many in Hollywood, he was willing to acknowledge that violence in movies may exert some influence over individuals like James Holmes, who killed 12 people after opening fire at a midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” last Friday.
“It’s a question that I wrestle with all the time,” said Weinstein, who has produced all of director Quentin Tarantino’s blood-spattered films, including the upcoming slave-era revenge fantasy “Django Unchained.” “I’ve been involved with violent movies, and then I’ve also said at a certain point, ‘I can’t take it anymore. Please cut it.’ You know, you’ve got to respect the filmmaker, and it’s a really tough issue.

ICYMI: Tina Fey & Amy Poehler Putting A Burn On James Cameron
We’re halfway through the Golden Globes and if you’re playing the Amy & Tina drinking game, then you’re probably doing a steady 55mph on the booze highway while making you’re way to Drinkville. And you’re probably shaped like a giant meatball sub, because you swallowed one giant meatball sub whole after hearing someone thank Harvey Weinstein. Make room for another, because I’m sure somebody else is going to thank his ass. If you’re playing your own drinking game, then there’s probably fifteen empty bottles of Strawberry Hill and a comatose hooker on the floor, because I know how you are. You drunk!
Here’s Amy and Tina busting out poses on the red carpet earlier tonight and I’m sure they totally planned to look like a lesbian couple going to a daytime wedding in a backyard garden in 1956. And if you missed Amy and Tina’s opening monologue, it’s below these block of words. Wait, there’s two of them saying words, so I can’t call it a monologue. Do I call it a DOSologue? Yeah, I guess so. Anyway, if you missed their opening DOSologue, it’s below these block of words:
And they should each get a Golden Globe for yanking James Franco’s taint and James Cameron’s droopy taint in the same monologue….I mean DOSologue.

When the Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, viewers across the globe were treated to Seth MacFarlane tossing out jokes that were exhausted before they were tried. Every line about how early the nomination announcements were fell flat on the West coast, so I can only imagine how weak they played in time zones that were already awake. His general onstage demeanor wasn’t doing him any favors either. He appeared shaken and unprepared, and while I doubt the nomination announcement was heavily rehearsed, I’m concerned about the man’s ability to compose himself on a global stage. He’s good on video and audio, but how is he live? (Recall last year’s Emmys, where he couldn’t even find his mic.)
Perhaps I’m a classicist, but not wearing a tie made MacFarlane look slovenly in a manner unbecoming of the film industry’s highest honors. Also, he insisted upon clapping into his mic. He brought on the usually affable Emma Stone (because “there’s nothing creepier than a guy standing by himself in Hollywood at five in the morning,” apparently), but even she couldn’t inject pre-dawn life into pseudo-jokes about how all of the Supporting Actor nominees were winners.
The banter wasn’t even banter. After introducing her as the star of Gangster Squad, MacFarlane promptly rescinded the title on account of the film being an ensemble piece. This was a line written poorly with the intention of commenting on the poorly-written line. Stone looked uncomfortable, which made MacFarlane look exactly like that creepy guy he claimed he didn’t want to be.
It didn’t end there. Some of the more painful nuggets:
“Those of you who weren’t nominated, you can stop doing interviews where you pretend you had such a great time making the movie.”…

Harvey Weinstein’s controversial Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden landed record ratings for Nat Geo Sunday night just in time to give President Obama that time-tested Weinstein bump, but the Hollywood heavyweight has something for Republican candidate Mitt Romney, too — a Bradley Cooper-narrated trailer for a Romney “comedy” entitled Hindsight.
“Based on the spectacular success of Seal Team Six, several journalists have asked me what a film on Mitt Romney would look like,” Weinstein wrote in the Huffington Post, introducing the video. “I told them it would definitely be a comedy, so I decided to get the Seal Team Six team back together.”
I’ve got to hand it to Harvey, clever guy: The man really is a PR genius. Who else would even think of promoting such varied agendas as the TV military dramatization Seal Team Six, President Obama’s reelection, and the upcoming holiday-hit hopeful Silver Linings Playbook, which Weinstein’s team insists “plays great in Middle America,” in one tidy viral video?

Yesterday at a $35,800-per-ticket fundraiser at the Westport, Connecticut home of Harvey Weinstein, President Obama big upped fellow dinner guest/event co-host Anne Hathaway while pretty much nailing his critique of The Dark Knight Rises: “She’s spectacular,” POTUS enthused. “I got a chance to see Batman, and she was the best thing in it. That’s just my personal opinion.” Ours too, Mr. President. Ours, too.
According to a pool report, President Obama also praised Aaron Sorkin (“[he] writes the way every Democrat in Washington wished they spoke”) while Weinstein paid him his own Hollywood-themed compliment, calling Obama “the Paul Newman of American presidents.”
The President was expected to raise $2.5 million between the Weinstein-hosted event and an appearance in Stamford, CT earlier in the day. No word on what he thought of all those pesky plot holes.

I’m getting to this a wee bit late, but hey: The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis has announced plans for the inaugural Internet Cat Video Film Festival, which is… exactly what it sounds like. LOL?
The Aug. 30 event will take place as part of the Walker Open Field program; its organizer has elaborated on the details at the program’s site:
Walker Open Field welcomes cat lovers (and challenges haters – c’mon, you know who you are) to openly release your cat-video-induced giggles and emotions that are otherwise muffled by computer screens and constrained by cubicles. Rejoice and be free like my favorite triumphant slow-motion kitten playing in the video below. Let’s transform this singular small screen viewing experience into a shared celebration with the larger-than-life projection of these silly clips out on the Open Field.
Not only am I totally down with this, but I recommend everyone attend this year before the scene is overrun with scenesters and marketers and gifting suites flanking bumper-to-bumper traffic in which Harvey Weinstein barks bidding-war instructions to his SUV full of subordinates (“She licks herself! We can release it unrated!” etc. etc.) beneath a smoggy pall of industry anomie. Or, failing that, you can always elect your favorites for inclusion here.
Anyway, about that slo-mo kitty:

Movies are by no means the most relevant topic discussed last night on Piers Morgan when Harvey Weinstein filled in as guest host and interviewed former President Bill Clinton about politics, kids drinking soda, and how much ass Hillary is kicking these days, but the parts in which the Hollywood powerhouse and the ex-Prez talked movies were some sort of bizarrely fascinating colliding of worlds. So what is Clinton’s favorite movie?
Clinton shared his childhood memories of moviegoing between discussions of more compelling (okay, real) issues. His trip down memory lane included vivid recollections of the good old days. “You could go to the movies for a dime, and I’d get 20 cents — I think you could get a Coke and a candy bar for a nickel.” (Well, he is over a dozen years older than Wilford Brimley was when he was the same age as Tom Cruise shooting Cocoon, or whatever.)

Now, the hypothetical Weinstein-produced Clinton biopic — there’s an idea. Meryl Streep as Hillz? If anyone could make that happen, it’d be Weinstein. Better question: Who’d play Ryan Gosling?
