Logan Lerman, arguably our most rosy-cheeked D’Artagnan, made an appearance on a Korean talk show while promoting the new Three Musketeers at the Busan International Film Festival. Maybe the movie’s not so hot, but you’ll see in this clip that Lerman’s cute awkwardness is the best we’ve seen since Jesse Eisenberg (and not as flip). Also, the host steals Lerman’s shoes, and for some reason it’s like watching a trainwreck.
First of all, how many times can one person insist he is shy? And be so right? Secondly, THOSE QUESTIONS. And then THAT SINGING. Concluding with THOSE SLIPPERS. It’s like a version of Contagion where the virus makes you shuffle in your chair and scratch your neck 100 times.

Zombies are primetime draws in 2011, dear friends, and that means Zombieland is coming back as a TV series. Hooray? Also in the Broadsheet: Shia LaBeouf gets into a street fight on camera (yikes!) and eyes a “giant” new film role (awww), the Octomom becomes an actress, and a Scrabble competitor plays dirty.
· It was only a couple weeks ago that Zombieland stars Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg signed to reunite in the magician heist film Now You See Me, but here comes even finer Zombieland news: Original scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are developing the feature as a half-hour comedy for Fox’s 2012-13 season. The series would replace a big-screen followup. I can hear the promos now: “After an all-new Raising Hope, stay tuned for The Yukking Dead!” [MovieWeb]
· Shia LaBeouf got into a nasty fight in Vancouver last week, and TMZ obtained video footage of his violent loss. Sigh. This wouldn’t happen to Michael J. Fox. [TMZ]
· In happier Shia news: He’s eying the role of a 10-foot-tall love interest in the quirky love story A Giant. Was Gheorge Muresan not available? [MovieWeb]
· Happy Halloween! The Octomom is starring in a low-budget horror movie! There’s video! Sometimes I obscure my shame with exclamation points! [TMZ]
· A professional Scrabble player demanded his opponent be strip-searched when a “G” tile went missing from the table. Where was this scene in Word Wars?! [Gawker]
· And finally, it’s time to get your hands on KFC’s Cheesy Bacon Bowl. The “bowl” is made out of gravy! Mmmm, death by delicious. And nuclear cholesterol. [Gawker]

Some of Woody Allen’s best films have had simple, straightforward film titles (Annie Hall! Crimes and Misdemeanors! Hannah and Her Sisters! Even Midnight in Paris…). But you know, I thought there was really something catchy to Bop Decameron, the former title of his current Rome-set next flick. Apparently, I may have been the only one who liked it; as Anne Thompson reports, Allen’s changed the title to Nero Fiddled. Riiiight.
There was something so romantic, so Fellini-esque about Bop Decameron! Who cares if no one “got” it, as Woody lamented. Reports Thompson on Hollywood: “‘I couldn’t believe how few people had heard of The Decameron even in Rome,’ [Allen] says. ‘And the few that did assumed the movie was based on Boccaccio’s tales which it’s not.’”
Well, fine. But Nero Fiddled? Here’s what comes to mind in free association:
- Nero…. neurotic. No thanks.
- Nero fiddled. Fiddled with what?
- Nero plays a fiddle? What kind of movie is this, again?
But you tell me; which is the better title for the pic, set in Rome and starring Roberto Benigni, Alec Baldwin, Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg and more?

Happy Friday! Also in today’s edition of The Broadsheet: Woody Harrelson may be next up for Now You See Me… The Half Nelson team gets Hate Mail… Idris Elba “would definitely consider” James Bond… The English Patient spawns a lawsuit… and more.
· New Line has officially declared its intention to reboot the Mortal Kombat series with Fame and Glee: The 3-D Concert Movie director Kevin Tancharoen, whose earlier Web episodes adapting the famously violent video game went viral earlier this year. The series’ writer, Oren Uziel, got the scripting gig. And here’s their Mileena! Ahem. [Deadline]
· Woody Harrelson is the latest actor to enter negotiations for the magician heist film Now You See Me, which would feature him as Merritt Osbourne, “a mentalist and hypnotist known for his Jedi-style mind tricks” — as well as reunite him with his Zombieland co-star Jesse Eisenberg. [Variety]
· Filmmaking duo Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (Half Nelson, It’s Kind of a Funny Story) have locked in Hate Mail as their next project. It’s an ensemble piece about “several Manhattanites who encounter various iterations of hate mail and grapple with the subsequent fallout of their relationships.” I’ll totally volunteer to play the guy who drinks away the voices of Web trolls every night! Let’s do it! [Variety]
· Idris Elba doesn’t really want to be the first black James Bond, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t consider accepting the role if/when Sony ever offered it to him. Like, obviously. [THR]
· Saul Zaentz, the three-time Best Picture-winning producer, is suing Disney for allegedly holding out on money he says it owes him for the…

Happy Friday! Also in today’s edition of The Broadsheet: Isla Fisher is in talks for some magic… Harlan Ellison wants to stop the new Justin Timberlake film from opening (or at least get paid)… Lionsgate wants an Abduction franchise… Cannibal Holocaust’s director has a few regrets… and more.
· I absolutely love this critical profile of Jason Statham by The Guardian’s Catherine Shoard. There is so much here you really must read, but the real news is simply the actor’s reassurance that he is not in the market for comic-book moolah: “Me in a cape? I don’t fancy that. Tight tights? Nah! I don’t think that’s right for me. I just respond more to true stories, that’s my flavor. […] I dunno. Luckily, I get to play some good bits that make people think I’m tough. Who knows! Ha ha ha! I just gravitate to those more testosterone-filled sort of parts than me playing something a bit more fairy-like.” The Stath, everyone! [The Guardian]
· Here’s why we keep a grain of salt at the ready: Less than two months after Amanda Seyfried was said to be “joining” the Mark Ruffalo/Jesse Eisenberg magician heist flick Now You See Me, Isla Fisher has reportedly snuck in to negotiate for the deal Seyfried couldn’t close. The role would call for Fisher to play “a master technician who builds contraptions to aid in the illusion of the heists.” [Variety]
· Speaking of Seyfried, legendary sci-fi author Harlan Ellison is suing to not only stop the Oct. 28 release of her film with Justin Timberlake, In Time, but to have all copies destroyed. Yowza! At issue are the similarities cited between the…

The glamorously screwball Kristen Wiig, who celebrates her 38th birthday today, is now a burgeoning screen star who is successfully elevating the zany and/or downtrodden aspects of her SNL characters into full-fledged performances. What’s her most underrated moment on the screen so far?
Plenty of Wiig’s pre-Bridesmaids roles qualify as fun, quiet performances, but I have a special affinity for her work in Adventureland because I have a special affinity for that movie. Not only are its two stars Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart fantastic, but everyone from Ryan Reynolds to Wendie Malick give sweet, believable performances. As Bill Hader’s meekly wacky wife Paulette, Wiig distills the unfiltered essence of her Knocked Up role into a distinctly small-town mold. Just lovely, especially when she offset’s Hader’s more traditional SNL hysteria.
What’s your choice?

Just a quick heads-up for our distinguished readers in New York: I’ll be at the Apple Store SoHo tonight with Jesse Eisenberg discussing his new comedy 30 Minutes or Less. It’s out today! You should see it! It will no doubt form the basis of a range of stimulating questions for the actor, though I can think of a certain David Fincher project and/or upcoming Woody Allen film that might come up as well. You never know.
The fun begins at 8 p.m. sharp on Prince Street. It’s free to attend, but seats are first-come, first-served, so don’t be shy about arriving a bit early to stake yours out. See you there!

Jesse Eisenberg’s performance in 30 Minutes or Less is like a mirror of something you’ve seen before in a movie you’ve seen before: As an unambiguously unambitious pizza-delivery guy who’s forced to rob a bank, is he riffling through the deck and pulling out the same old cards, perhaps in a slightly different order? Or is he adding subtle variations to a type of character he’s played many times previously, biding his time until he can get another role like the perfectly calibrated one he played in The Social Network?
It’s hard to tell with Eisenberg, who may be one of the most underwhelming good actors working today: Even when he wows us, as he did in The Social Network, he’s wowing us with a shrug. The shrug is there in 30 Minutes or Less, Ruben Fleischer’s follow-up to his exhilarating, sure-footed 2009 debut, Zombieland, but it’s a shrug without a country. Zombieland was a picture with a strong sense of place, a metaphorical call for compatriots to band together in tough times. 30 Minutes or Less is a crime farce that’s clever and funny in places, but mostly just shambling and crude. Eisenberg can’t quite find his place in it, and it’s easy to see why.
Eisenberg plays Nick, an alleged grown-up who hasn’t yet figured out how to make the grown-up thing work. His best friend, Chet (Aziz Ansari), pinpoints the problem succinctly: “You? An adult? You had a Lunchables for dinner last night.” Nick has some minor problems, including that dead-end pizza-delivery job,…

After scoring a critical and commercial hit with his directorial debut, 2009’s Zombieland, director Ruben Fleischer decided to make the relatively humble crime comedy 30 Minutes or Less (in theaters Friday) as his follow-up, rather than take on some huge Hollywood work-for-hire gig like Mission: Impossible 4, which he was once in the running to direct. And as he tells Cinema Blend, when he watched the first trailer for the Brad Bird-helmed spy sequel, he knew he’d made the right decision.
“I just felt like if I didn’t do [30 Minutes or Less] then I would never have the chance to, because once you’re in that machine then that’s what you do,” said Fleischer. “I also didn’t have the confidence, to be totally honest. I wasn’t ready to take on that scale of pressure, it sounded really intimidating.”
It’s a rational line of thought from Fleischer, whose 30 Minutes or Less — which stars Zombieland’s Jesse Eisenberg as a pizza man forced to rob a bank — feels distinctly his. Besides, Fleischer’s next film, the period crime thriller Gangster Squad, will be a big enough step up in terms of scale. Watch the full video below.
