More than six years passed between the releases of I Heart Huckabees and The Fighter, and it appears that David O. Russell is planning to make up for that lost time… with extreme prejudice. Since last October, the Oscar-nominated director has seen his name attached to no less than five projects, and the likelihood of them all happening with Russell in the director’s chair seems remote. However! Which has the best chance of going through as planned? Movieline investigates after the jump.
1. Silver Linings Playbook
First announced: March 28, 2009
Odds of getting made: 5-1. Russell has actually been interested in adapting Matthew Quick’s novel since 2008, even before The Weinstein Company made a play for the production last March. Earlier this year, it was reported that Mark Wahlberg was in talks to play the leading role — a former high school teacher who gets released from a mental hospital after four years and tries to win back his estranged wife. Just last Friday, news broke that Russell was meeting with actresses Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde, Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Banks for the female lead. Put it all together, and don’t be shocked when The Silver Linings Playbook gets some big official announcement before Labor Day.
2. The Mission

The friendly skies became the sessy skies on June 9th when this Victoria’s Secret archangel and Internet starlet sashayed onto a flight from Fort Lauderdale to Phoenix even though several jealous hating passengers demanded that he be kicked off. Things just keep getting worse for failed Twitterer Anthony Weiner. The New York congressman was supposed to have a fundraiser held for him by Matt Damon on June 20, but following Weiner’s embarrassing sex scandal, it has been tabled. “It’s going to be postponed now because of all this,” Damon told Daily Intel. Not that Damon won’t try to do something for Weiner in the future: “Anybody who fights for the working class and the middle class, I’ll help in any way I can.” Perhaps lessons on how to use the Internet would be a way to start. This calls for numerous celebrations, from the offering of free doughnuts at chain and indie retailers nationwide to the corrupted Twitter trending of #donutday. Full Story »Lindsay Lohan may be under house arrest as of Thursday, but the troubled starlet is still able to make her art house debut via a new 90-second film by renowned painter Richard Phillips. The project, straightforwardly titled “Lindsay Lohan,” was shot last month in Malibu and will play the first week of June in New York City’s Gagosian Gallery. Take a look at the “psychological portrait” ahead and bonus points to whomever can guess which two 1960s films inspired the filmmaker and his muse.
If you guessed Jean-Luc Godard’s Contempt (starring Brigitte Bardot) and Ingmar Bergman’s Persona (starring Liv Ullmann), you win! In an interview with the New York Times, Phillips said, “What fascinates me about Lindsay are not her problems but the way she embodies an eminence on the level of a Bardot or an Ullmann. […] She’s a combination of the fantastic and the real, which is what makes her so magnetic.”
The film will also be played on a Jumbotron alongside the Grand Canal in Venice during the opening festivities of the 54th Venice Biennale in June. Because, why not.

To help whet our 80s-born appetites, Paramount has released two new stills showing the kids of Super 8 both pre and post alien encounters. The Pearly Gates are extra shiny today because Barbara Billingsley, June Cleaver on Leave It To Beaver, glided through them this morning. Barbara’s rep said that she passed away at her home in Santa Monica, CA at the age of 94. Her rep added that she had been suffering from rheumatoid disease for a while now.
Barbara is survived by her two sons.
Rest in peace, Barbara… I’m sure you’re up in heaven vacuuming the clouds while wearing a string of pearls (now is not the time for pearl necklace jokes!). And of course, speaking jive with the angels.
Cristiano Ronaldo has kept his charbroiled lips shut since announcing on his Facebook that he is the proud single father of a newborn baby. Crispy crossed his spicy Slim Jim legs and refused to spit out anymore details. But the Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias (via Daily Mail) claims they have a few more facts on Crispy’s secret baby. Let’s see what they brought to class:
Rumor #1: Cristiano hired an American surrogate from San Diego to carry his orange baby
Rumor #2: The baby boy was born on June 17th while Crispy was competing at World Cup in South Africa. He traveled to San Diego on June 29th immediately after Portugal was eliminated from World Cup.
Rumor #3: Cristiano has named his son Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. Ronaldo is Cristiano’s middle name.
Rumor #4(from a different source): Crispy didn’t use a surrogate. The baby was the result of a one-night fuck he had in America. He paid her off to stay quiet.
Okay, I know the whole “paid surrogate” thing is giving you visions of Cristiano and Ricky Martin pushing baby strollers together under a flock of unicorns prancing over a rainbow*, but can we focus on what really matters here…..like the baby name.
Up until a few minutes ago, I didn’t know Crispy’s last name isn’t Ronaldo. So I threw him a few “Is the grease clogging the pores on your scalp?” look thinking that he named his kid Ronaldo Ronaldo. That shit is an unfortunate stutter.
“Ronaldo Ronaldo” just doesn’t bump a hip into my soul the way “Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro” does. Let’s call him Baby Santo Dios
