You may look at this first photo from the set of Iron Man 3 and think, “Gee, Tony Stark has a lot of toys.” I look at it — a shot of Robert Downey Jr. as Stark, gazing at his wall of Iron Man suits in a lab/Hall of Ego scattered with gadgets and gizmos aplenty — and remember I need to do laundry. Also, I need a bigger closet. Why does Tony Stark have so many wardrobe options?

On the flip side, you could go way into depth surmising what all this hardware means, as EW’s Anthony Breznican does:
It’s a big responsibility for whomever — we presume Stark’s automated butler JARVIS — to guard this stuff. Although Marvel Studios hasn’t released details of the plot, if you couple this official image with paparazzi shots last week revealing the Iron Patriot, a character using stolen Stark tech who literally wraps his armor in the flag to justify his actions, we may be seeing the issue of proliferation rising again for ol’ Tony.
Sure, sure. But wait… what could this one face-obscured behind-the-scenes shot mean for the meaning of Iron Man 3?
What comes next could be too powerful even for Stark to control. If rumors are true that Iron Man 3 filmmaker Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) is taking his cues from the Iron Man comic series Extremis, which deals with nanotechnology injected directly into human beings to make them more powerful, then it’s no longer a matter of who is inside the weapon than what kind of weapon is inside the person. And that next case on the wall, which looks eerily like a row of coffins now, would have to contain Tony Stark himself.
WHOA.…

I’m sure there are more exciting things in life than watching Colin Farrell, dressed in a sleek, dark suit, weave through the streets of London behind the wheel of a saucy black convertible, the Yardbirds’ “Heart Full of Soul” rumbling on the soundtrack. But as random weekend movie pleasures go, I’ll take it: Farrell is the star, and the unassuming center, of William Monahan’s nervy, noir-inflected thriller London Boulevard.
London Boulevard — the directorial debut of screenwriter William Monahan (The Departed, Body of Lies) — has some rough edges: There are some characters we care about whose deaths are handled a little too cavalierly — Monahan might have given their demises more weight or at least a dash of grace. But the movie has a brisk, glamorous style. I’ve noted some people carelessly comparing it to Guy Ritchie’s films, because it’s set in London and features gangsters, I guess. (Lord knows Ritchie was the first guy to think of that.) But it reminds me more of Shane Black’s Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, though ultimately it’s darker and more raggedy around the margins. Still, Monahan, like Black and unlike Ritchie, has some feeling for his characters. (Monahan adapted the screenplay from a novel by Ken Bruen.) Who they are and what they do is less important than what they feel. That makes a difference in a movie that offers a variety of shootings, stabbings and head crackings.
And having Colin Farrell as your star doesn’t hurt. Farrell plays Mitchell, a guy who’s just been sprung from jail for getting involved in what…

Robert Downey Jr. is not just a laudable actor who earned the coolest Oscar nomination of the past decade for his performance in Tropic Thunder; he’s also a damn quotable person. But what happens when he’s asked to speak about Iron Man 3, a film that Lethal Weapon writer/Kiss Kiss Bang Bang director Shane Black hasn’t finished writing yet and comes out in May 2013? He’s not as revealing or candid (since, uh, there’s nothing to reveal). Instead, he says things like this.
In a Los Angeles Times interview, Downey shared this vision for Iron Man 3:
“My sense of it is that we need to leave it all on the field — whatever that means in the end. You can pick several different points of departure for that.”
Well! Maybe he can elaborate on whether Shane Black’s involvement will yield any of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’s “meta-charms”:
“The thing about Shane is that it will be anything but one of those moments, unless we come up with something that is so cheeky and character-driven and perfect that it has to be in the movie.”
So, maybe! Or definitely not! Or both, somehow.
“We’re not talking much about [the script] right now because Shane is off writing and we talked before that and when we are talking again the talking is going to be over pretty quick [because we’re on the same page]. It’s kind of like we’re fighting on the same side and at the same time we’re circling each other, so it’s all great. It should be great.”
Great (!) (?) ( :/ ).

Appearing over the weekend at the Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex Film Festival, Jon Favreau and surprise guest Robert Downey Jr. talked up a storm regarding their two Iron Man flicks, the Avengers movie, Favreau’s work on the upcoming Magic Kingdom, and Iron Man 3, —which is being directed by Downey’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang helmer Shane Black. Favreau revealed how, despite having vacated the director’s chair on the threequel, he’s still helping out in front of and behind the camera.
“I love the franchise and I’m a big fan of Shane’s as well, so hopefully I can be helpful because I want to see this thing grow and transform,” said Favreau, according to a Slashfilm report. Black had previously helped the duo out in hashing out scene ideas, so Favreau will be returning the favor. “And actually, when it finally landed on Shane, it was like, ‘All right, that’s gonna be something interesting.’”
Black is tasked with the challenge of tackling the first Marvel superhero movie post-Avengers, which will see Iron Man once again flying solo. Iron Man 3 already has a release date of May 3, 2013. Favreau continued:
“It’s going to be so difficult for whoever does that one because although it’s Iron Man 3, the whole Avengers thing…I guess in comics you can say that it’s an individual storyline and you can break it off into a group. But in movies, it’s hard not to take into consideration what just happened. What are you gonna say? ‘They all just lost their cell phones and you can’t get help?’ So it’s going to take a
