Shoes should not look like they have hairy bunions oozing out shit on them, but try telling that to Christian Louboutin who is telling hos they better empty out their pocketbooks into his hands if they want some Siegfried & Roy shit on their feets.
I mean, has it really come to this? Are we as a society really spending thousands of dollars for shoes that make us look like we’re about to chase after some antelopes or sing about the circle of life. Do you really want to look down and think of King Mufasa plummeting to his death? I guess Blake NotSoLively does, because she wore this mess on the set of Chisme Niña in NYC yesterday. I swear Blake’s dog keeps looking at those shoes like she wants to start a fight with them. Or maybe she thinks those are Scooby snacks on the toes.
The only reasonable reason for wearing Aslan’s sawed off paws on your feet is if you’re fucking with a freak who has a Narnia fetish and a shoe fetish. Even then, get these instead.
“Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat? Wouldn’t you think my collection’s complete?” Insert “piles of The Lion King 3D cash” for “stuff” and you’ll see why Disney’s planning to roll out even more retro hits in similar fashion in the next few years. Why leave those catalogue classics in the vault when they can bring in as much as $80 million more a pop?
Having proven that giving older films a shiny new 3-D facelift can bring in the dough, and how, Disney announced that they’ll give four additional films the Lion King 3D treatment in 2012 and 2013: Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo.
Each of the four films selected for re-release were critical and commercial successes upon initial release; Finding Nemo in particular counts among the highest-grossing films of all time just beneath The Lion King, having brought in $867.8 million during its 2-D theatrical run.

It’s easy to criticize the move as a blatant cash-grab, but really; audiences made The Lion King 3D number one at the box office for two weeks, so it clearly fulfilled a demand among the family demographic. Venice is a city of lions. There’s the ubiquitous winged lion, the symbol of Saint Mark, seen everywhere in statuary and on banners. Last night, outside the Casino, one of the main buildings of the festival complex, I saw a winged lion statue, about 12 feet off the ground, with a single wine glass perched delicately if a bit precariously atop one of his meaty paws, left behind by some meticulous reveler. Other lions have no wings but appear not to mind much, standing guard at church entrances, outside restaurants or at the center of neighborhood squares. And everywhere you look, there are smaller lion faces gazing back at you: Some have important and obvious jobs to do, holding door-knockers or doorbells in their mouths. Others are free to simply be themselves, but all seem intent on keeping an eye on things.
Then there are the festival prizes, the Golden and Silver Lions, which will be announced on Saturday. Today is my last day at the festival (though I’ll be reporting back on the prizes over the weekend), which means it’s time to look back at the movies I’ve seen in the past seven days and suggest some possible winners — though remember, there’s no such thing as a sure thing.

Cats! You know you love ‘em! Or maybe you don’t. In that case, watching Disneynature’s African Cats may give you a new appreciation for these fascinating creatures. Or maybe it won’t. That’s the problem — mixed in with a few blessings — with handsome-looking documentaries like this one: They present the wonder of nature smoothed over and shellacked for our enjoyment and possible edification. But in the end, does African Cats really bring us that much closer to understanding the essential mysteries of catness? Or does it just cop a cattitude?
African Cats, directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey (the former was one of the creators of the BBC documentary series The Blue Planet), follows two cat families, lion and cheetah, as they raise their cubs — with varying degrees of success — on Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. On Team Lion, we have the elder statesmen, Fang (so named because a broken tooth dangles rakishly from his lips), who protects a group of lionesses and the cubs he’s fathered with them. Danger lurks, though, in the form of a gang of lion brothers who hope to move in on Fang’s territory, not to mention ingratiate themselves with his lady friends. Fang’s pride has a tough enough time just finding enough prey to keep them from starvation; the last thing they need is a Sharks vs. Jets face-off.
On Team Cheetah we have Layla, the loneliest mom. Cheetahs don’t live and travel in groups; cheetah mothers raise their young alone, and sure enough, sad-eyed…

Plushie lion photo bomb alert! Sadly, this post is not about how Taylor of Green Gables has converted to Plushophilia and is now skipping through the wheat fields of Avonlea with a plushie lion who suffers from TMJ. No, this is about how Taylor Swift sat with Glee’s Chord Overstreet at a Kings vs. Wild game at the Staples Center in L.A. last night. (Side note: I always confuse Chord Overstreet with Justin from Queer as Folk. And then I start to think that Chord would look a lot better if he was sitting on Brian Kinney’s face.)
Taylor just finished up with a dude whose names rhymes with a million words, and now she’s getting with a piece named CHORD. CHORD! Chord’s name is a damn song in itself. My “don’t give a fuck” cousin who has been held back from the 2nd grade twice could come up with billions of words that rhyme with CHORD. Taylor isn’t even trying anymore. Homegirl is hypnotized by the fact that she can share shampoo with Chord and she’s not thinking about how she needs to challenge herself! Ho needs to date a Thai dude and try to find something that rhymes with his name. Taylor is as lazy as her eyelids.
That being said, I cannot fully hate on this pairing because their couple name is: Sweet Tard
