Movie stars might be an endangered species, but don’t tell that to the Warner Bros. marketing team behind the new poster for Crazy Stupid Love. All six of the film’s big stars — that would be Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei and Kevin Bacon — get prominent treatment on the one-sheet, which also manages to recall one of the most iconic big screen moments ever.

A nation — and Steve Carell’s bewildered face — turns its lonely eyes to you, Ms. Tomei. Crazy Stupid Love opens in theaters on July 29.

It’s official, film fans: character posters are a thing. Not to be outdone by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows or Captain America, the marketing team behind Conan the Barbarian has released five character posters, highlighting the swords, blood and bustiers the August film has to offer. Initial thought: Stephen Lang looks pissed. Check out the posters ahead.

See the rest of the Conan character posters — featuring stars Jason Momoa, Rose McGowan and Ron Perlman — by clicking Lang’s massive forehead. If that’s too intimidating, though, click here.

That didn’t take long. With filming on The Dark Knight Rises officially underway, Warner Bros. has started the hype machine early in anticipation of the July 20, 2012 release. A new website went online late Thursday (www.thedarkknightrises.com), and while it initially seemed like nothing more than a black page with some bizarre chanting on loop, a closer investigation has revealed a bit of viral marketing tied to — what else? — Twitter, and a subsequent first look at Tom Hardy as Bane in the new film.
An enterprising Batman fan over at Superhero Hype — or perhaps just some member of the Warner Bros. marketing team — realized that the audio file on the site contained a Twitter hashtag (#thefirerises) that, when tweeted, would slowly begin to reveal a hidden teaser image embedded on the site.
Naturally, the image itself has already leaked — and you can check it out below. Hardy-as-Bane looks awfully menacing, no?

For a movie that is all about secrecy and misdirection, there are an awful lot of marketing materials for Super 8 flooding the Internet this week. In addition to those three clips — clips that some of us haven’t watched; ahem — Paramount has released a couple of new stills from the film, which highlight Elle Fanning’s shock face and a pretty bright blue light. Click ahead for a sneak peek.

Question: What mysteries lie in that briefcase casually lying on the ground? Something Rambaldi-related, right? Click the images for a closer look.

Mark one in the “WTF” column in the annals of random movie marketing ideas. In addition to McDonalds, candy, toy, and video game tie ins, the animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 2 will also team up with House Foods America to package 8 million units of tofu with the image of series hero Po, the rotund martial arts-practicing panda voiced by Jack Black.
According to a press release issued jointly by House Foods America and DreamWorks Animation, the co-branding deal makes sense on multiple levels. First, tofu is delicious! Since a love for food is one of Po’s dominant character traits, he might as well endorse healthy eating. Second, the Kung Fu Panda franchise was created from cultural influences that originated in the East. Just like tofu! Thirdly, in the film Po’s father is a restaurateur. Guess which brand of tofu Mr. Ping serves exclusively in his modest noodle shop in ancient China? (Just kidding. That last part can’t be verified.)
“By positioning tofu as a nutritious, powerful food that keeps warriors such as Po and
the Furious Five kung fu ready for any adventure that comes their way, we hope families and kids nationwide discover tofu’s potential as a superfood,” said House Foods America marketing supervisor Yoko Difrancia in the press release.
The question is, will America’s uninitiated youngsters accept the wonders (and bland, squishy delights) of tofu over, say, the Happy Meal that comes with a collectible Kung Fu Panda 2 action figure?

· Whether it’s because the unending Marvel marketing push has worn down any objections to Thor or because the marketing has actually gotten much better, one thing is certain: Thor looks kinda fun, all of a sudden! The latest still of Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin only furthers that recent burst of joy — perhaps because his silly eye-patch isn’t dominating the frame.
