Now it’s Courtney Love’s turn to tell her story about her husband Kurt Cobain and she’s turning to a medium she knows well, even if it has at times not been to her liking. The Hole musician has approached filmmaker Brett Morgan to do a Cobain documentary, a project that has been under discussion since 2007.
“Courtney is the one that brought me into this,” said Morgan, whose Rolling Stones doc Crossfire Hurricane premiered at the BFI London Film Festival last month. “We’ve been trying to find the right time to put tho film together and the time is now.” Morgan, who spoke to the New York Post said they’re eyeing a 2014 release.
Rumors swirled that a Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue recently when once close Britney Spears protégé Sam Lufti testified under oath that he and Love were working on a possible stage or motion picture project based on the grunge artist who died of a self-inflicted gunshot in 1994. “There will be no musical,” Love later told The Observer. “Sometimes it’s best just to leave things alone.”
Nevertheless, a doc is underway at least for now, and it will take the form of a “third-person autobiography,” Morgan said. “[As] if Kurt was around and making a film about his life…Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and film-maker.”
Kurt Cobain left behind a wealth of recordings even beyond his music, some of which played out in a 2006 documentary, Kurt Cobain About a Son by AJ Schnack, which Love did not sanction. Cobain and Love were both the subjects in the 1998 doc Kurt & Courtney by Nick Broomfield, which Love allegedly tried to…

Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock will take on a boy band for his next project and rabid fans will get a 3-D view. U.K. group One Direction will be the subject of a film by the Oscar-nominated director in a project that will be produced by X-Factor producer Simon Cowell.
One Direction – Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson – have had a meteoric rise since they were plucked into notoriety by Cowell’s original British version of X-Factor in 2010. The five-some quickly became one of the competition’s all-time popular acts. They finished in the final three, but more importantly, they amassed a massive fan base.
In March 2012, One Direction’s debut album, Up All Night, made a splash Stateside, becoming the first British group to have a debut album enter the U.S. Billboard 200 chart at number 1 – god who knew? The band has sold over 13 million records worldwide and today, the group released their sophomore album, Take Me Home, which includes hit single, Live While We’re Young.
The TriStar Pictures project is set for an August 30, 2013 release, which lands on Labor Day weekend in the U.S. and Canada.
Morgan Spurlock, Ben Winston, Simon Cowell, and Adam Milano will produce the film.

Gone are the days of callouses and carpenter pants. Today, men are rocking skinny jeans and moccasins as they treat themselves to spa days, having no shame in getting waxed, tweezed, manicured and/or exposed to other meticulous grooming techniques. This ongoing — and slightly horrifying — “manscaping” trend is spreading throughout America and beyond, and Morgan Spurlock (along with executive producers Ben Silverman, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman) captured it all in their world premiere Tribeca documentary, Mansome.
The film highlights everything from elite beardsmen (yes, it’s a sport) to wrestlers’ full-body shaving, but mostly focuses on candid interviews with some familiar Hollywood men. Movieline caught up with director Spurlock at the film’s premiere over the weekend, chatting about everything from the ongoing “manocolypse” to the Oscar-nominee’s top five manscaping tips.
When you think of the manscaping trend, who comes to mind in Hollywood?
Zach Galifianakis! That’s why we called him first.
How much grooming does he do?
None — that’s why he was perfect. You think of someone like a David Beckham, you know; you think of somebody like that. We immediately thought of Scott Ian from Anthrax because he’s been shaving around that crazy beard his whole life, and he’s one of the first people I called. You think of like these kind of perfect-looking actors and actresses, many of which wouldn’t talk to us, simply because they didn’t want to get into it.
In reference to some of those guys, do you think that kind of seal look is good for anyone?
Well, it seems to be good for Seal, I don’t know — it seems to work out! I feel like if you’re going to commit yourself, like really going for it, then you might as well go…

“Freeman’s rep tells us the actor remained silent for years because he didn’t want to ‘dignify these stories by commenting’ … but now he feels compelled to speak out after the reports were picked up by various ‘mainstream media’ outlets. In his statement, Freeman says, ‘The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media designed to sell papers. What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being picked up by the legitimate press as well.’” Sorry about that, Mr. Freeman. In other news: TGIF. [TMZ]

Keeping Up With Klint
The last person I ever thought would show his face on an E! reality show has just agreed to show his face on an E! reality show. TMZ says that Clint Eastwood’s wife Dina Eastwood and their daughter Morgan and his daughter Francesca are shooting their own reality show for E! right now and he’s agreed to make a few cameos. Senileism is a helluva drug. Damn. Clint has millions of dollars, 4 Oscars and is tap dancing on the A-list. Clint doesn’t need a reality show. I bet E! lured him in with a plate of caramel squares. Those pepaws and their caramel squares. It’s like crack wrapped in a virgin’s vagina.
The show will apparently focus on Dina’s relationship with Morgan and Francesca and their life as “Hollywood royalty.” Clint’s 18-year-old daughter Francesca is an aspiring actress, so she’s probably hoping this will lead to some shit. The show will be added to E!’s gallery of skid marks in the next few months.
Okay, Francesca’s father is Clint Eastwood and she’s using reality TV to become a professional actress? That is some nepotism fail shit. The only good that can come from this is that at the E! company picnic, Clint will mistake the Kuntrashians for a pack of yetis and lasso all of ‘em up.

I reserve a certain affection for dolphin show music. Ever been to Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo or Shedd Aquarium? Then you know the majesty of these new-age, meandering, indigo-hued musics. Inspirational, yet warm. Timelessly dated. When Keiko pops up on her tailfin or jumps at the dangling red doodad in the air, you want beautiful musics to help couch your tears. That’s all I have to say about that. And look, here’s Harry Connick Jr. in a poster for a dolphin movie!

Morgan Freeman is most excited about dolphins, as you can see. He’s grinning like he scored a VIP ticket to the stage-right, front row section of Noelani’s Aquatic Vaudeville. Swim, Noelani, swim! Do a jive now! You throw that trainer into the sky! And come back down with a splash that sends Morgan into a fun little fit. Weeee!
Oh, also: Hello, Kris Kristofferson. You are indeed an evergreen.

How do you follow up a quadruple Oscar-winning historical drama? If you’re King’s Speech director Tom Hooper, by filming a Captain Morgan Rum commercial. Check out the spot — conveniently debuting on the eve of the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides premiere — ahead.
That clip is called “DIVE,” and it will be followed by two other spots: “GLASS” and “RIDE HOME.”

There’s nothing less controversial than a documentary filmmaker pretending to be controversial. To make POM Wonderful Presents the Greatest Movie Ever Sold, Morgan Spurlock pounded the pavement, took to the phones and beat the bushes to find a number of corporate sponsors to help finance his documentary about — what else? — product placement in the movies. By being completely transparent about his motives, he’d expose the inner workings of the system and, possibly, reach some grand conclusion about the extent to which all moviegoers are constantly being sold to.
But that isn’t really the subject of Spurlock’s movie, and even he knows it. The subject of Spurlock’s movie is Spurlock, and while he may be reasonably affable, and sometimes extremely goofy, it’s a stretch to call him controversial. The Greatest Movie Ever Sold opens with Spurlock explaining, in a voice you might use if you were talking to a five-year-old, the basics of product placement and co-promotion: Fast-food chains offer Iron Man and Transformers tie-in toys, which in turn raises public awareness of those pictures (as if they needed it). Auto companies provide gleaming, sexy cars for movie heroes to drive, with the express intent that those vehicles will be so prominently displayed that no one could miss them. As of this writing, anyone born after April 20, 2011, will be shocked to learn that this is one of the ways in which Hollywood does business. The rest of us will pour a stiff drink into our Pebbles & Bam…
