As you may recall, I’m not a big Thor fan. It’s the costume. Still, I consider it my duty as a Marvel Comics fan to bring you this trailer from Thor: The Dark World, which hits U.S. theaters on Nov. 8. The action isn’t quite as exciting as the slam-bang stuff that happens in the Iron Man 3 trailers, but it sure does look like Thor’s Earth-bound lady love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) ends up in a heap o’ danger when the superhero takes her on what looks like an impromptu journey to Asgard and, perhaps, doesn’t guard her ass enough.
The scenes that begin at the 1:16 mark and use of the word “sacrifice” in the voiceover certainly hint that Foster’s life could be at stake. Take a look below:

Last Spring, Forbes named Kristen Stewart Hollywood’s highest paid star, but the title of “most bankable star” is another matter altogether. Natalie Portman gives the best cash return, according to those denizens of wealth at Forbes, beating out the likes of Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Shia LaBeouf and Daniel Radcliffe.

Portman’s films Black Swan, No Strings Attached and Your Highness were included in the formula that put the Oscar-winning actress over the top. Your Highness was, in fact, a flop, taking in only $25 million on an estimated $50 million budget, but that blemish did not derail her reign atop the list. Forbes also did not count Thor because Portman was a supporting actor in the title.
Forbes devised a calculation that includes an actors’ earnings, box office grosses and budget estimates that fixed the Black Swan star’s returns at $42.70 for every dollar she is paid.

We looked at the last three films each actor starred in over the last three years that opened in more than 2,000 theaters, calculating the return on investment for the studios who pay his (or her) salary. We didn’t count movies where the actor was in a supporting or large ensemble role and we didn’t count animated movies. The actors who score well on this list tend to have small paydays and star in highly profitable movies.

Full Story »You’ve probably been wondering just how Thor (Chris Hemsworth) made his way back to Earth in The Avengers after being separated from his lady scientist girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) at the end of 2011’s Thor. A newly released deleted scene from the ending to Thor reveals that Jane was at least trying to re-establish connection, sending a beacon skyward to help her man find his way back to her. (And once he finds his way back, what, not even a phone call? Ugh, men.)
The deleted scene debut from Marvel teases the April 2, 2013 release of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe Box Set – “Phase One” which includes Blu-rays of Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and The Incredible Hulk as well as 3-D Blu-rays of The Avengers, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor.
Meanwhile, Portman’s running around the set of sequel Thor: The Dark World with mystery gadgets and Wellies, so we’ll see Thor and Jane reunite soon enough.

Your guess is as good as mine as to what the heck’s going on in new set photos from Terrence Malick’s latest picture, in which Natalie Portman and Michael Fassbender appear to be getting down to lip-locking in a field… and are interrupted by a green lizard man with “FREAK” tattoed across his chest. What’s Terry up to down in Austin?
The untitled Malick film follows To The Wonder and Knight of Cups in the filmmaker’s suddenly hyperproductive recent filming tear and is about sexual obsession and lusty betrayal in the Austin, TX music scene. Or, as you might imagine, a Friday night on 6th Street during SXSW.
But, more importantly! In the new batch of set pics Portman and Fassbender get wrapped up in each others’ arms, a bit more passionately than co-stars Rooney Mara and Ryan Gosling did in their previously snapped scenes. They gaze into each others’ eyes. He dips her onto the ground. And then… The Lizardman startles PortBender out of their embrace!
(He’s Austin fixture Erik Sprague, self-professed “professional freak,” and he has a split tongue. Perhaps a little local flavor to keep the Untitled Terry Malick Sexytime Picture weird?)

Natalie Portman and her ballerino piece Benjamin Millepied have been wearing wedding rings for months now even though they weren’t married in the legal sense, but they changed all that last night when they said vow stuff to each other under a chuppah (not this Chupa) at somebody’s house in Big Sur, CA. UsWeekly says they got married at around 8pm in the dark, but don’t ask them for anymore details, because they don’t have any right now. Even though no other details are known at this time, we can pretty much assume that Natalie’s vows included some quote from a philosopher none of us know and in lieu of gifts the bride and groom asked guests to plant a tree or broaden their minds by buying and reading a book on a subject that is foreign to them. NO JOKE. One of my friends went to a smart people wedding and the bride and groom didn’t want gifts, but they did want their guests to read a book and then to tell them about that book at the reception. Fuck that shit. I’m getting you a blender, bitch. This ain’t school. I’m just here for the cake.

Bobby Cannavale Added to Woody Allen Project

The ex-Beatle revealed two new music videos over the weekend at his daughter Stella’s West Hollywood fashion outpost, directed by none other than McCartney himself. Apparently it was easy! Read on for his working methods and the results.

“I wasn’t sure that I wanted to do the big, million dollar music video thing,” McCartney explained about his hesitation to film a big-budget production. ”Stella suggested that I do something really simple. ‘You know Natalie,’ she said. ‘Ring Natalie up and just ask her if she will sign to your song.’ [...]
“I would talk to Natalie and Johnny before filming and we would just have a normal conversation. Then we would turn the camera on and there was just a complete transformation. It wasn’t surprising, because, you know, that they are both that good, but to see it happen in front of you is pretty remarkable. It was like seeing two different people completely—it was like they morphed into screen gods right in front of me.”

Natalie Portman and the pirouetting father of her Ivy League graduate baby (yeah, he already graduated) Benjamin Millepied silently announced that their asses are married when they wore their wedding bands to the Oscars on Sunday. Maybe their silent announcement was an homage to The Artist? Or something. Natalie would rather eat raw meat out of a leather wallet (no euphemism, she’s veganese) than talk about her personal life, so there’s probably not a chance in hell she’s going to confirm this. But who needs Natalie to confirm this when her jewelry designer will do it for her. Jooree designer Jamie Wolf tells People Magazine that those rings are of the marriage kind and she made them for Natalie and her huzzzzzbeeeeeend.
Jamie Wolf confirmed today that she designed Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied’s “wedding rings,” she shares in a release.
Wolf created two diamond rings for Portman, made to fit on either side of her engagement ring, and a platinum band for Millepied. Both baubles are eco-friendly, made with recycled metals and conflict-free diamonds.
This marriage is going to last about as long as it takes me to do a full plié without farting (that could take a while, actually), so it was kind of smart of Natalie to not officially announce that she’s somebody’s wife. Among the heap of speculative projects idling in the landfill otherwise known as Hollywood, a Michael Jackson biopic has long been one thought likeliest to be reclaimed. This week, in fact, comes word that the late pop icon’s estate is in discussions with Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Picture Company to nudge such a project forward. Not to be outdone, an Irish bookie with a demonstrated interest in the most outlandish cultural wagers imaginable has commenced casting speculation in an inspired — very inspired — fashion.
First off, have a generously sized grain of salt handy. Now choke it down, chased with the morning beverage of your choice (preferably whiskey). And then browse Tuesday’s dispatch from Variety, in which the King of Pop’s estate is said to have approached Reitman and partner Tom Pollock about bringing “certain periods of the late singer’s life” to the screen. Pollock told the trade that while talks have occurred, nothing is close to locked; indeed, there is no evidence of a script, treatment or anything beyond the impossible dream of an authorized Michael Jackson feature that might actually work for the family, fans and casual filmgoers alike.
But! It’s never too soon to toss out some casting suggestions — especially those from Paddy Power, the notorious bookmakers from across the pond previously best known for favoring Natalie Portman to lead The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
