That’s right, Mantivities. Star Trek’s Chris Pine, along with five of his buddies, wrote the comedy script; he’ll produce and star under director Michael Patrick Jann (The State, Reno 911!). Writes Deadline: “The comedy focuses on a group of friends in their early 30s, all in various stages of permanent adolescence. They get together with the aim of helping one of them grow up… ‘I couldn’t be happier to begin the adventure of making Mantivities knowing how much fun we all had writing it,’ Pine said. ‘Somehow I get to laugh with my friends and call it work.’” [Deadline]
Lifetime movies are better than movie movies. They’re melodramatic, inbred morsels of filmic stank. And the best ones — as of today — possess a sacred ingredient called “Rob Lowe’s Moustache-y Acting Talents.” As Bolingbrook, IL cop-turned-murder suspect Drew Peterson in the new TV feature Drew Peterson: Untouchable, Lowe tries on his best Da Bears accent and dons a moustache that reminds me fondly of Reno 911 and his Parks and Recreation costar Nick Offerman. You will not be able to handle his sole line of dialogue in the new teaser trailer.
OK. Just OK now. If Drew Peterson ever really uttered the line, “I’m untouchable, bitch,” I’m assuming he didn’t deliver it with effeminate, monotone dispassion. Then again, maybe that fey, stilted quality is what made Drew a serial killer. All I know is this obviously Lifetime’s finest work since the Hayden Panettiere/Marcia Gay Harden triumph Amanda Knox: Murder on Trial in Italy, where Harden all but fed her Oscar to wolves. Judd Apatow’s next film — his untitled writing/directing venture already starring Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, Albert Brooks, and Megan Fox — just added its first dose of Bridesmaids lady magic to the cast in the form of Melissa McCarthy. (Chris O’Dowd was previously mentioned as in negotiations for a role.) Awesome! But: Is McCarthy the bawdy bridesmaid whose success you should be rooting for most?
The Mike & Molly star is joining the Knocked Up psuedo-sequel as a mother at the school where Rudd and Mann’s children attend. (McCarthy’s son will be played by Super 8 kid Ryan Lee.) I’m thrilled for the very candid and fun McCarthy, who has played fan-favorite roles on two cult TV hits; her cruise ship anecdote in Bridesmaids made me believe in the possibility of dolphin-to-human synergy. Yet I think I’m still waiting for Reno 911 vet Wendi McLendon-Covey and Damages goddess Rose Byrne to reel in the starring comedy roles they are so owed after Bridesmaids.
McLendon-Covey’s ad-libs in the Funny or Die extra footage were hysterical, and Rose Byrne’s superior stank was the surprise of the summer. I’ll be happier for McCarthy once all three ladies are justly cast. Still, go Melissa!

Our lusty friends over at New Sensations have been dutifully cranking out porn parodies of TV show after TV show, but with a few exceptions (Tina Fey’s glancing meta-reference of the 30 Rock porno comes to mind), the properties covered tend to ignore the Sensations crew’s (ahem) hard work. Leave it to Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant from Reno 911 to fix that.
The two actors got together for Funny or Die to review the New Sensations spoof of Reno 911 (which is surprisingly light on the same-sex couplings I’d expect from this property), and the results are magnificent, as well as NSFW. Watch the watchers below:
