Tim Burton had brought up the idea of Frankenweenie long before he finally was given the go-ahead. Development for the stop motion animated film dates back to late 2005, but didn’t finally come out until recently. He went on to direct Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland and Dark Shadows before his latest time in the director’s chair. But the hold-off with Frankenweenie begs a follow-up question: What other ideas did the Scissorhands filmmaker ever have that didn’t make it to the big screen? Apparently the answer is Michael Jackson.
Speaking with Yahoo! Movies, U.K., Burton, who received an award along with partner Helena Bonham Carter at the recently concluded London Film Festival where Frankenweenie had its European debut, said that he once proposed a pic starring the pop legend who died tragically in 2009.
“My favorite one was when I tried to convince the studio to make my idea of a musical version of House Of Wax with Michael Jackson,” said Burton. “It was many years ago but that’s the one that springs to mind.”
Though a collaboration between the eccentric Thriller superstar and the off-beat Oscar-nominated filmmaker might have been a journey in filmmaking spectacle, the idea apparently had a quick demise.
“They did not go for that one at all,” said Burton.
Re-made from a 1953 horror in 2005 starring Paris Hilton, the story follows a group of teens who are stranded near a strange wax museum. They soon begin to fight in a struggle to survive from becoming the exhibit’s newest acquisition.

Who knew that some people would actually be offended by Marky Mark implying that the passengers on the 9/11 planes were fawkin’ pussy queeahs and didn’t have the red third nipple of courage to kill the terrorists like he does? Tons of people were not amused, including the families of the victims, and so Marky Mark’s sort of kind of apologizing through TMZ for hurting all yooz rehatd’s feelings.
“To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.”
Marky’s publicist, or who ever wrote that shit, should keep it in a file. Because they’re going to need it when Marky tells Douche’s Journal if that if he was on the Costa Concordia cruise ship, he would’ve punched that rock into dust and used his extra full long nuts to paddle the ship to safety. PAH!

So much greatness in that 148 seconds, notably Sirius and Lily chatting with Harry before his fateful walk into the woods. Also, so much action! It seems that David Yates took some dramatic liberties with the final pages of The Deathly Hallows, but that might not be such a bad thing. What’s left to say about the final installment of Harry Potter besides “get here immediately”?

Full Story »Every once in awhile a film comes along that rouses Academy voters, captures the hearts of theatergoers, and finds a place in the immense, lush tapestry of great cinema. Shark Night 3D, please prepare to be the first Jaws ripoff (or movie, for that matter) to win the Thalberg.
And now, I will name the great things about this trailer.
1. I started cackling as soon as the hapless supporting character mentioned “a lake house,” “Lake Crosby,” and “Sarah Cawski’s house.” What could go wrong? Teens love lake houses!
2. The ensuing segue featured a chest-bump and girls dancing in tanktops. Three Oscars from me.
3. The tag “The Ultimate Summer Vacation.” You know you’re entering Cabin Fever territory here, but I still love the ham-handedness of it. I wonder if there will be GIRLS!!
4. Teen girlfriends casually going topless as they head outdoors. I am now stealing Oscars from old winners and giving them to the cast of Shark Night 3D. Think fast, Brenda Fricker!
5. The amazing water-skiing tricks. I am clutching my forehead and weeping on this keyboard. I am having a good time.
6. All the shark stuff. Guys, head to the island and stay there. I’m telling you the shark won’t find you on the terra firma — unless Chevy Chase is inside the shark suit, which is definitely possible.
7. The title card that reads “From one of the producers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” What were the others doing? Besides warning neighbors about the shark in their backyard lake? I can’t stop crying. I can’t stop loving. I can’t stop living my life like it’s golden. Finest trailer ever.
Verdict: Flawless.

The cast of Adam Shankman’s ’80s musical adaptation Rock of Ages won’t stop growing. The director has confirmed that Catherine Zeta-Jones is in final negotiations to join the production as the villain of the movie — a character that was not part of the stage production, but was created recently to “streamline the stories.” The actress — who won an Oscar for singing and dancing in another film adapted from Broadway, Chicago — would star with Tom Cruise, Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin, Diego Boneta, Julianne Hough, Paul Giammati and Mary J.
